How To Take Care Of Your Hardwood Flooring !
Max Patel
Having spent your good money wisely on hardwood flooring, its only prudent that you take all possible steps to safeguard your investment. Without proper care, hardwood floors can easily degenerate into any other normal looking mediocre type of flooring. With just that bit of extra effort and its not much we assure you, you will rejuvenate your hardwood floor and infuse it with the same zest for life that made you buy it in the first place. Each type of flooring demands its own way of maintenance, be it bamboo flooring or laminate flooring all the way to hardwood flooring. So dont miss out on these tips on how to keep your hardwood floor looking its best always!
The greatest danger to your hardwood floor arises from there surprisingly basic elements of our life abrasion, heat and moisture. Sand particles and their ilk on the hardwood floor are likely to leave scratchy marks and abraded indentations on your precious hardwood floor if for some reason, they are caused to skid on top of the floor due to friction. This basically causes a surface level problem. Heat and Moisture on the other hand play a role in deforming the shape of the wood and/or causing the flooring boards to weaken which can make it potentially unsafe to put weight on. Thus, most of the tips and techniques catering to the care of your hardwood floor will deal with mitigating one of these factors almost always.
The first step is to put your vacuum cleaner or your broom (soft brush, mind you!) to good use regularly. Periodically getting rid of all the nagging sand and hard dust particles on your floor goes a long way in ensuring that your hardwood remains scratch free for as long as possible. Please note that dry-cleaning of the hardwood flooring is strongly recommended as compared to wet-cleaning. Never use a wet mop on a hardwood floor for it will have disastrous consequences. When required, i.e. some liquid has been spilt, use a moistened cloth like a towel or something and ensure that the action area is localized and you dont spread the dampness around. If you have hardwood flooring in your kitchen, it makes sense to put an absorbent mat or an area rug near the places where water flow is maximum like the kitchen sink.
Preventive measures need to be taken as well and this means having doormats at all your main entrances to remove as much of the sand and stone particles in the shoes that could affect your flooring. For all furniture, especially the ones that are heavy and can leave a mark on not just your hardwood flooring but laminate flooring or bamboo flooring, use felt cloth bits, cotton pads or smooth cardboard cuts to spread the pressure and also to not drag when furniture is being moved around.
Following these basic steps can give your hardwood flooring almost a miraculous lease of life and the joy of walking on this flooring paradise will be yours to cherish for ages to come!
